[To be fair, the Shadow they were fighting hadn't seemed like much of a threat. They'd dispatched several of their types with no real issue before, quick enough that they'd barely gotten any attacks off. So, when Ren sees one of them launch a Bless attack at a currently-in-combat-with-another-Shadow Akechi and realizes that there's no time to for his teammate to dodge, tossing himself in the way to defend him didn't seem such a bad idea. An instinctive decision, no time to think about it. And so, with a frankly unnecessary flip into the way, he takes the attack meant for Akechi--
Completely forgetting the type of persona he himself currently had summoned. One who was just as weak to Bless as Loki was. Pain courses through Ren's body as he collapses, and the smaller Shadows, sensing blood in the water, shift their attention to focus on attacking him before he can get up.
They make it out, of course. They always do. But their venture needs to be cut short that day, and though the full extent of Ren's injuries don't return with him to the normal world, he's definitely retained a good handful of bruises, scrapes, and cuts.
Not the first time, and probably not the last.
Ren winces as he gets his footing steady, taking some deep breaths so as not to get dizzy.]
W-well. That...could have definitely gone better.

[A gloved hand reaches out to steady Ren--not to take his, but to fist into the back of his collar and make sure he doesn't crumple. Akechi is mindful enough of the fact they're in public not to raise his voice, but he does round on him with a low, venomous hiss. If nothing else, at least Ren's timely intervention had assured that Akechi was well enough to scold him for this?]
You idiot. What exactly were trying to prove with that stunt?!

Miscalculation, not a stunt, silly.
[Even if it totally looked like one; he tends to move a bit more theatrically than needed as Joker.]
I'd be keeping you off the pavement right now if I hadn't moved in the way back there, so, you know. You're welcome?
